Skin Lightening Cream: Use Only State-Of-The-Art Solutions

The days when you could experiment with skin lightening cream are long gone. Information abounds concerning bleaching chemicals used in the past that have been proved to have harmful effects, of people that are now living with the scars. But unfortunately these chemicals are still being used today: by unscrupulous manufacturers in the market to make a quick buck or by unsuspecting individuals seeking quick results in the quest for cheap lightening treatment.

What Do You Have On Your Hands: Time Or Money?

Safe and effective skin bleaching solutions do not come cheap – period! Meaning you have to invest time or money or both. For one thing lightening your skin is probably something you will have to do on and off for years to come. Nature and the environment are always working to reverse the short-term gains because, as you age, the natural trend is for your skin to get darker. Secondly the foods we eat contain substances called oxidants and the body’s way of removing them, one of them anyway, is through the skin, a process that slowly darkens your complexion.

Given this, what are you willing to invest? If you have the time and the interest to research how to lighten your skin you can achieve good results and at very little cost by using some of the safe home-made remedies. For best results you may have to use a combination regimen, alternating the home-made remedies with a good skin lightening cream of your choice. But if time is not on your side then do not compromise by going out for cheap skin whitening creams; creams formulated with the dangerous chemicals mentioned earlier like mercury and hydroquinone. These chemicals work very fast it is true, and the creams based on them are cheap nowadays. Hydroquinone is banned in some countries, so any manufacturer using it can get it cheap!

Making the Right Choices

So, what is state-of the-art?

When I researched skin lightening creams this is what I came to realize: that most high-end products that work safely and quickly all are formulated from natural acids extracted from plant sources. The acids in question include lactic acid from milk and Alpha Arbutin from mulberry, blueberry or bearberry. Kojic acid, popular in Japan, is derived from malting rice. Others are palmitoleic acid from the macadamia nut, Glaridin from licorice and Glycolic acid from sugar cane. But enough of that: There are far too many plant sources used in skin bleaching creams to list in a short article, and skin whitening, for all that it has been practiced for centuries, is still very much a young science.

What is Recommended

The bottom line then is to select a skin whitening cream that has the following features:

  • The modern trend is to use water-based formulations. Go for those, and, oh, did I mention you should drink lots of water? Water is nature’s vacuum cleaner and the more you take the easier it becomes for your organs to eliminate the toxins in your body. The skin is one of these organs. Avoid creams that use alcohol and similar solvents. This is because ethyl alcohol and the propyls are irritants and if used regularly on your skin can in fact negate the gains achieved by the skin whitening ingredients, or they can cause skin sensitivity.
  • For a longer lasting effect use a cream that contains an ultraviolet light screening agent (a good example is magnesium ascorbyl phosphate or MAP, but there are others). A cream that does not contain such an additive can only work slowly (the UV light tends to reverse the gains quickly), meaning you will need to use more of it for a longer period. Using a sun screen in addition to the bleaching cream is a a costly workaround in my opinion.
  • The natural acids we have already seen. More and more of them come along all the time and it is likely you will come across formulations that use others; the emphasis though should be that they are natural.
There are many good skin lightening creams on the market for me to try and recommend any. Modern commerce and the internet have made it possible for you to get any product you want no matter where in the world you live. All you need to make the right choices is to know what to avoid and what has been proved to work safely. Get in the habit of finding out how the product is formulated. Just as you normally would check foodstuffs in the supermarket for a sale-by-date, so you should be watchful where the skin care products you use on your precious skin are concerned. Remember skin is the foundation of your beauty!
